The Southwest Virginia Lacrosse Association was formed as a corporate entity in early 2009 in response to the growth of men's and women's lacrosse in the Roanoke Valley area.
The mission of the SWVLA is to grow the game of lacrosse - men's and women's - here in the Roanoke Valley. Its mission will be accomplished through an official chapter relationship with USLacrosse - the national governing body of both men's and women's lacrosse. USLacrosse, formed in 1998 from the Lacrosse Foundation, provides its member chapters with rebates from membership dues for chapter operations and educational programs for coaches, players, officials, and administrators of the game. The SWVLA will solicit funds from both personal and corporate sponsors and return those funds to its lacrosse communities in the form of educational programs, tournaments for its players, and grants of money and equipment where appropriate.
The Board plans to formulate both a 3 year strategic plan and yearly tactical plans to implement new lacrosse programs in area middle and high schools and provide clinics for players, coaches, officials, and adminsitrators of both new and existing programs.
