As part of the Chapter’s mission, the Chapter looks for opportunites to help support and make lacrosse diverse and inclusive to all. The Cape Ann Adaptive Youth Lacrosse Program is an an exciting opportunity consistant with our mission.
Cape Ann Adaptive Youth Lacrosse Program
The Cape Ann Adaptive Youth Lacrosse Program is designed to provide girls and boys with physical, learning and/or cognitive disabilities the chance to learn the game of lacrosse in an appropriate environment. The program is open to participants ages 8-14. The program offers a way for kids with physical and developmental disabilities to enjoy the sport in a non-competitive and adaptive environment. Coaches and organizational participants emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development on an age and ability appropriate basis. The program is structured to have middle and high school lacrosse players from the local communities teamed as a “buddy” or “mentor” for each participant. These buddy coaches assist in adapting the skills and teaching methods to the needs of each participant’s ability and specific requirements. Equipment and rules have been modified as necessary to meet participant’s needs while maintaining the overall fundamental lacrosse team experience.
